London, Milan, New York, Paris: the best in leather at the latest women’s fashion shows has once again highlighted all the best features of leather: its versatility, exclusivity, and its being the ideal material to enhance the highest craftsmanship. Here’s how
We are spoilt for choice. For the Fall-Winter 24/25 season, the brands have constructed leather garments and accessories, paying attention to every detail, relying on the highest level of craftsmanship, and enhancing the exclusivity of this material. Choosing the top five was not easy, but we tried, and this is the result of our best in leather.
The best in leather from fashion shows
The Ferragamo mermaid dress
Maximilian Davis, Ferragamo‘s creative director, brought very special ‘scaled’ mini-dresses to his Milan fashion show. Short models with long sleeves were covered with 950 laminated leather inserts that looked like giant sequins. Details superimposed on each other created a ‘mermaid scale’ effect. The application, made entirely by hand, required 24 hours of work.
The Fendi lollipop holder
A small leather accessory that, as the Roman fashion house defines it, is ‘the meeting of tradition and fun’. Fendi’s lollipop bag is a tiny jewel of craftsmanship: as described on the brand’s website, it is “finished with Selleria stitching”. The “lollipop bag” is the fruit of a collaboration that promises to be a must-have: Fendi x Chupa Chups®.
Miu Miu’s workwear gloves
If gloves (even leather ones) are usually long and thin, Miu Miu gloves are voluminous and have the typical workwear shape. But the refinement of the leather, offered in various colours and finishes – from shiny to crocodile print to suede – is combined with the generous fit workwear shape, creating a very messy-chic contrast.
The Chloé cape
Following the romantic wave of ruffles is the new leather cape proposed by Chloé, which is fluttering and soft. The cape is the symbol of the boho-chic collection proposed by the brand under the stylistic guidance of Chemena Kamali, which made its debut at Paris Fashion Week. Worn over pastel-coloured transparent dresses, it is a touch of romantic elegance.
The upcycling of Balenciaga
Clothes, jackets, and accessories in the latest collection presented by Balenciaga are the fruit of a regeneration of other garments and objects. An upcycling and layering elaborated thanks to a very high sartorial savoir-faire. This is Demna Gvasalia‘s new provocation. The jackets are constructed by overlapping elements sewn together (or wrapped with tape), and the bags, mainly made of leather, are another clear message against unbridled consumerism.
